Terms of Service

The agreement between you and Storylines — what you get, what it costs, and where each of us stands.

Last updated 1 September 2026

1.This agreement

These terms are between you and [Legal name], [organisation number], Sweden (“we”, “us”), who operate Storylines. By creating an account you accept them.

They should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains what we do with your data.

2.What Storylines does

Storylines is a story organiser. It reads manuscript files from a folder on your own computer, detects scenes, and lets you organise them with timeline, chapter, character and subplot metadata. Optional AI features can suggest metadata, place scenes on a timeline and assess structure.

Your files stay on your computer. Storylines needs a browser that supports the File System Access API and your permission to read the folder. We store metadata about your project, not your prose — see the Privacy Policy for exactly what that covers.

Because the service reads and writes files you own, keep your own backups. We are not a backup service and cannot restore a manuscript you lose.

3.Your account

  • You must be at least 18, or have your guardian's consent.
  • Give us an email address you actually read — we use it for billing and service notices.
  • Keep your login details to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
  • One account per person. Don't share a login to avoid paying for a second seat.

Tell us at once if you think someone else has got into your account.

4.Plans and prices

FreeOne project, up to 100,000 characters, all organisation and timeline tools. No AI.
Premium — 59 kr / monthUnlimited projects and characters, all AI features, and an allowance of 200,000 AI tokens per month. The allowance resets each billing period and does not roll over.
AI creditsPremium subscribers can buy extra tokens: 25 kr for 250,000, 69 kr for 750,000, or 159 kr for 2,000,000. Credits are used after your monthly allowance runs out and expire as shown at the time of purchase.

All prices include VAT. At checkout you may be shown the price converted into your local currency; the conversion is handled by our payment provider and the rate includes their fee. You can always choose to pay in Swedish kronor instead.

We may change prices. If a change affects a subscription you already have, we will tell you by email at least 30 days beforehand, and it will only apply from your next billing period — so you can cancel first if you would rather not continue.

5.Payment and renewal

Payments are handled by Stripe, which is the merchant of record for your purchase. Your receipts and card statement will show Link rather than Storylines. Stripe collects and remits the applicable VAT and provides your invoices.

A Premium subscription renews automatically each month until you cancel. If a payment fails, we keep your Premium features active for a short grace period and email you so you can update your payment method. If it is still unpaid after that, the account returns to the Free plan.

6.Right of withdrawal

As a consumer in the EU you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance purchase. Storylines is a digital service that starts the moment you pay, so when you complete a purchase you ask us to begin immediately and acknowledge that you lose the right of withdrawal once the service has been fully performed.

For a subscription this means you can still withdraw within 14 days, and we will refund the part of the month you have not used. For AI credits, the service is performed as soon as the tokens are added to your account, so credits you have already spent cannot be refunded; unused credits can.

To withdraw, email [email protected]. Stripe, as merchant of record, may also apply cooling-off rules for your country and can issue a refund directly.

7.Cancelling

Cancel whenever you like, from your profile page. Your Premium features stay active until the end of the period you have already paid for, and you are not charged again. We do not pro-rate a cancellation part-way through a month, beyond the withdrawal right above.

Deleting your account cancels the subscription immediately and removes your data — see the Privacy Policy.

8.Your writing is yours

You own everything you write. We claim no rights over your manuscripts, characters, plots or any other part of your work, and we will never use it to train a model or show it to anyone else.

You give us permission to store and display the metadata described in the Privacy Policy, purely so that we can show it back to you. That permission ends when you delete the data or your account.

9.AI features

AI suggestions are exactly that. They can be wrong, miss things or misread your intent, and a maturity score is an opinion generated by a language model rather than an assessment of whether your book is any good. Check anything before you rely on it.

Analyses run only when you trigger them. What is sent, and to whom, is described in the Privacy Policy.

Premium subscribers may use their own Anthropic API key instead of a Storylines allowance. If you do, Anthropic bills you directly, their terms govern that usage, and we have no control over their rates, limits or availability.

10.Acceptable use

Don't:

  • break the law, or use Storylines to produce material that is illegal in your country
  • upload work you have no right to use
  • try to get into other people's accounts or data
  • attack, overload or reverse-engineer the service, or work around usage limits
  • resell access, or run the service on someone else's behalf as a bureau
  • use automated tools to scrape or bulk-extract from the service

If you do any of this we may suspend or close your account. Where it is proportionate we will warn you first and give you a chance to export your data.

11.Availability and changes

We aim to keep Storylines running but we do not promise a particular uptime. There will be maintenance, and occasionally there will be faults. We may add, change or remove features as the product develops; if we remove something you depend on, we will give you reasonable notice.

12.Liability

Storylines is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost profits, lost writing time, or damage arising from AI output you acted on. Our total liability in any 12-month period is limited to what you paid us in that period.

Nothing here limits liability we cannot limit by law — including for death or personal injury, fraud, or your mandatory rights as a consumer under Swedish and EU law.

13.Governing law and disputes

Swedish law applies. As a consumer you also keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country you live in, and you can bring a claim in your local courts.

If we cannot resolve a complaint between us, consumers in Sweden can take it to the National Board for Consumer Disputes (ARN), arn.se. Consumers elsewhere in the EU can use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform.

14.Changes to these terms

We will email you at least 30 days before any change that materially affects you, and the change takes effect at your next billing period. Continuing to use Storylines after that means you accept the new terms; if you would rather not, cancel before they take effect.
